Year 4
We are very lucky in Year 4 to have a very strong team ethos where both staff and pupils help and support each other. We believe it is essential to enjoy hard work and follow the golden rules so we can appreciate our achievements. In Year 4, we encourage the children to develop independence and resilience so they can be successful in all areas of the curriculum and in the wider world. We are ambitious and eager to learn and be the best we can!
There are three Year 4 classes. Every morning, children have a Writing and a Reading lesson. Monday to Thursday, children have a mathematics lesson.
In the afternoons, the children have History or Geography lessons every week. Also, they have one session a week of Science, Music, PSHE and RE. The children have two PE lessons every week. Children also develop key skills such as spellings, grammar and arithmetic in short sessions which can be applied across the curriculum.
We also expect children to read regularly at home. Each child is given a reading journal and they are given the responsibility of recording what they read at home. They are also expected to choose from a range of tasks to complete such as creating fact boxes about an author or writing a diary entry in the role of a character in the story. This year, we are encouraging the children to read books recommended by the English team as well as their class teachers.
