Welcome to Year 3! In Year 3, we encourage the children to develop independence, resilience and determination. We instil in the children that they can achieve success, in school and in life, if they work hard and we will support them in any way we can on their learning journey.
There are three Year 3 classes. Each morning, children have a Literacy and Mathematics lesson. There are also daily reading lessons where children gain an understanding of different texts and learn how to answer comprehension questions.
In the afternoons, children are taught Science, History, Geography, Philosophy/RE and PSHE through our Connected Curriculum. The focus of our learning for the spring term is: Roman Britain.
Letters that have been circulated to parents are available for you to view and download here.

Parents will be informed about details of any school trips throughout the year.
Each Friday, children will be given a piece of Literacy and Maths homework to complete by the following Friday. Spellings will be given out by your child’s spelling teacher on a Monday to be tested on a Friday. Number bond and times tables targets will be tested on a Thursday and your child will be informed of their scores, and whether they need to move on to a new test, on a Friday.
In addition, we expect children to read regularly at home. Reading, and understanding what they have read, is hugely important to support your child’s learning in a range of curriculum subjects. Please listen to your child read as often as possible, ask them questions about what they have read, and update their reading diary. We aim to listen to your child read at least once every fortnight in school.
If you have any questions or need any support with your child’s homework, please come and speak to us.
The subject areas covered are detailed in the curriculum letter sent to all parents which can be found by clicking here.
Year 3 children need to bring their reading books and diaries every day. Homework can be handed in on any day.
All money needs to be sent in with your child in the morning in a clearly labelled envelope with their name, class, the amount of money and what it is for. Dinner money needs to be paid at the beginning of each week.
If you would like to speak to your child’s teacher, please feel free to speak to us before or after school. If we are not free to talk at that time, or if the conversation needs more time, we can arrange a different time with you. If you do not drop your child or pick them up, please contact the office and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
